Netflix loves High Bridge, NJ !

Still there as of March 2021

For some strange reason, mostly by accident, the little town of High Bridge is featured (OK, 5 seconds) in a Netflix show !  It seems the new Jan 2021 show called "The History of Swear Words" has this five second clip of the town's 1909 tunnel.   The town is called High Bridge (different from Highbridge, Brooklyn) from a wooden (high) bridge that was built. After many years the wooden bridge was a bit wobbly.  So dirt was used to fill in to support the bridge and two tunnels added in 1909 (one for a road, one for the river) side by side.   The tunnel is about 150 feet long.  It's a very famous tunnel in Hunterdon County along with the last remaining covered wooden bridge left near Flemington, NJ.  Other then that.. it's pretty rural around Hunderdon County, NJ.

Back to the story.  This show is hosted by Nicholas Cage, so in Part 1. Episode 5, of the 6 they have, has educators and comedians talking about swear words.  Then 19 minutes into the show, after an education talks, there is the 5 second video of a car going towards, then halfway into the High Bridge tunnel, then cuts back to the studio with Nicholas Cage finishing up the show ! !   In the first episode, they are talking about the F word.  And there are a few shots of that word, in public places, as they talk about the different meaning and expressions of that word.  The 5 second shot shows no "bad" words on the walls or  front of the tunnel.  So it wasn't going to be used for that first episode.   Only locals know of this tunnel, there are no signs stating the location near the tunnel.

Back in the summer of 2017, some music video producer found our little tunnel. Selma Gomez filmed a video in this little tunnel.  Actually she only sang, an actress and actor were there one night filming shots of a "dream sequence" using the tunnel and property right by the tunnel lit with candles.  Laser beams and special lighting were used in the tunnel.  Several internal shot clearly show the rock surround arch that has stood since 1909.

An interesting point.  As you see from the image below, the words in the show are spoken a LOT.  But on their show listing, Netflix uses ** to spell them out.  Even on the episodes they are **'d out.   Interesting.

Somehow a 5 second shot of our little town's tunnel is just there... THANKS NETFLIX !
I did contact Netflix, let's see how long that clip stays in that episode.
